Race
A big attraction of the weekend is the dual slalom race Saturday morning. Amateur racers compete alongside the professional disabled ski team athletes. Teams composed of four industry members and one USAST athlete competes for awards in two divisions: competitive and sport. As team captains, USAST members provide other team members with professional advice and support. Teams compete in a dual-racing format with each skier taking one run.
If you plan on racing, here's a quick rundown of the events in the downhill action:
- The Race Team Captain Meeting is held on Thursday at 5pm. Captains need to pick up their team's bibs, materials and schedule.
- Make sure you attend the race clinic held on Friday morning. There, you will learn how to make those quick starts and other tips from USAST athletes and coaches.
- On Saturday, the time of each racer is used to determine division placement and the total team time.
- Team awards are given for the first, second and third place in each division. Individual awards for fastest males and females are also handed out.
- One of the most coveted awards is The Best Dressed Team Award. Every year there's some pretty fierce competition for this fun award. So, make sure your team dresses up before heading out to the hill.
- If you don’t win Best Dressed, you’ll still have a shot at other awards like Masters, Best Crash and others.
- Race Awards are presented at the Saturday Night Closing Banquet.
